Theodore Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss)


Theodore Geisel (March 2, 1904 - September 24, 1991) was an American author and illustrator, best known for his children's
books written under the pseudonym Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss wrote dozens of children's books that were translated in many languages both before and after his death. [1]

While most famous for his children's books, Geisel also worked in advertising, drawing advertisements for various magazines, he was a political cartoonist, and he also did some film work with the army. [2]

Career


(Example text) Geisel began drawing political cartoons while a student at Dartmouth College. In 1925 Geisel was removed from his position as editor for drinking, and adopted the pseudonym "Dr. Seuss" to continue publishing his political cartoons. [3] Many of the characters from his political cartoons would later appear in his children's stories. After college, Geisel went to work for an advertising agency. He worked on a number of campaigns before achieving success with the Flit advertising campaign. [4]

After his army service during World War II, Geisel began working on children's books in addition to his advertising work. During his lifetime he published over 60 children's books, including famous titles such as The Lorax, Horton Hears a Who, and //How the Grinch Stole Christmas.[5]
